Kettlebells & Yoga: a beautiful combination

Initially, yoga and kettlebells may seem to be very different pursuits.

Not surprisingly, training with kettlebells & practicing yoga have a lot in common & complement each other beautifully.

Both ancient forms of wellness/health practices mimic each other delightfully, one offering a positive support system for the other to promote greater efficiency of each practice.

Together, they give the practitioner an opportunity to recreate play in a powerful way. Play is an essential ingredient in creating sustainable change and aging well. 

In addition, this partnership invites the practitioner to experience a profound and visceral connection to sensation in both body and mind.

They become a celebration of what our body and mind are capable of doing.

Have you ever heard the saying, “what happens in your mind, happens in your body”? 

These two disciplines give us the opportunity to develop a highly efficient, well-executed body-mind regimen. One discipline will complement the other, balance imbalances left by the other, as well as push us to completely understand and respect our body in the moment.

These complementary practices help us create evolving ripples… finding balance in one aspect of our wellness will lead to healing & balance in other areas of your wellness. This is the basic foundation of holistic well-being:

As we move around with playfulness, with our kettlebell and in yoga practice, we bend, twist, breathe, rest, feel, embrace stillness, encourage explosiveness, deliberately notice, challenge, and let go.

We do this in all planes of motion. Sometimes while simultaneously trying to control a heavy ball of cast iron.

We experience kettlebell movement & yoga’s 8-limbs in precisely the way we experience life!

With this in mind, implementing Yoga & Kettlebells in concurrence with one another is beneficial because each discipline simultaneously supports the other.

When practiced in conjunction with each other the practitioner will experience greater stamina, mobility, & vibrancy to successfully execute the practice with ease and effort…simultaneously. 

Further, both recognize rest as a vital ingredient to create balance and sustainable change. 

Each of the holistic disciplines ask us to develop a routine that includes all of our wellness. Not just the physical parts of you. They teach us that to create radical change in one aspect of our health and wellness, we must pay attention to the other parts. → body, mind, emotion, & spirituality. 

Together, these practices will guide you to optimal levels of health, power, sensuality, & healing.

  • To cultivate a strong body requires a sound, nonjudgmental mind, be fully engaged, playful, & present.
  • To cultivate a self-care regimen that hosts a balance of both ease & effort. This enables us to completely restore and refresh our body, mind, and soul by guiding it back to where it belongs.
  • If we can become vulnerable to the practice of nonjudgmental, present living, we become more in tune with our bodies functions & will achieve greater, more sustainable results.

From the perspective of the physical practice of movement, mobility is an important goal. 

Mobility will protect against injury, is important for healthy progressions, & is required to support good posture/alignment for every movement on and off the mat. 

Although yoga offers the similar benefits of mobility and strength training, the addition of kettlebells amplifies stability and range of motion.

In tandem they give us the tools to progressively & sustainably achieve a spectrum of physical and mental functionality & contentment.
